چکیده

4 2 containing FeSO and Na EDTA. EDTA could be replaced by citric acid. In this in vitro system 4hydroxybenzoic acid is hydroxylated to 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (protocatechuic acid) and decarboxylated to hydroquinone. In an analogous reaction 2-hydroxybenzoic acid (salicylic acid) is hydroxylated to 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (gentisic acid) and decarboxylated to catechol. Surprisingly the reactions showed Micahelis-Menten saturation kinetics for the products, and this paper is the first description of these reactions. From these data it is also cautioned to use hydroxylation of hydroxybenzoic acids as an indicator of oxidative stress and hydroxyl radicals in biological systems without proper controls.

Manganese (III)-Bis(salicylaldehyde)-4-Methyl-1,2-Phenylenediimine (Mn-BSMP) as an Inexpensive N2O2 Type Schiff Base Catalyst for Oxidative Decarboxylation of Carboxylic Acids with (n-Bu4NIO4) in the Presence of Imidazol

In this study, bis(salicylaldehyde)-4-methyl-1,2-phenylenediimine (BSMP) as a Schiff base ligand of N2O2-type and its Mn and Fe complex as M-BSMP catalyst were synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis, IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. The efficiency of Fe- and Mn-BSMP catalysts was evaluated in the oxidative decarboxylation of arylacetic acids with tetra...

Bacterial Decarboxylation of o-Phthalic Acids.

The decarboxylation of phthalic acids was studied with Bacillus sp. strain FO, a marine mixed culture ON-7, and Pseudomonas testosteroni. The mixed culture ON-7, when grown anaerobically on phthalate but incubated aerobically with chloramphenicol, quantitatively converted phthalic acid to benzoic acid. Substituted phthalic acids were also decarboxylated: 4,5-dihydroxyphthalic acid to protocatec...

Oxidative decarboxylation of para-hydroxybenzoic acids by peroxidases under in vivo and in vitro conditions.

Oxidative decarbyxylation of p-hydroxybenzoic acids in plant cell suspension cultures is catalyzed by peroxidases. This reaction has been characterized in vivo and in vitro. Decarboxylation of substituted benzoic acids yields monomeric, dimeric and oligomeric benzoquinones. All peroxidases obtained from soybean (Glycine max) cell suspension cultures by gel electrophoresis are equally capable to...

Chain elongation, 20hydroxylation, and decarboxylation of long chain fatty acids by yeast.

Chain elongation and 2-hydroxylation pathways, which are specific for very long chain fatty acids ( >C&), have been found in the yeast, Candida utitis. The chain elongation system acts specifically on fatty acids of chain length C2,, to CZ4; there is no detectable elongation of Cl* and only trace . . . actrvrty with C&,. The product of the elongation enzyme or enzymes is C& when Co, C&, or C24 ...

The hydroxylation of phenylalanine and tyrosine: a comparison with salicylate and tryptophan.

The hydroxylation of phenylalanine by the Fenton reaction and gamma-radiolysis yields 2-hydroxy-, 3-hydroxy-, and 4-hydroxyphenylalanine (tyrosine), while the hydroxylation of tyrosine results in 2,3- and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa). Yields are determined as a function of pH and the presence or absence of oxidants. During gamma-radiolysis and the Fenton reaction the same hydroxylated prod...
